Ol Tukai Conservancy: on line!
Category: Uncategorized | Date: Oct 29 2007 | By: admin
The Ol Tukai Conservancy ( Tanzania) is very proud to be a member of the WildlifeDirect family…we consider it a great priviledge indeed!
We have been operating in the Tarangire-Manyara corridor area for the last 2 years and have had excellent success both on the conservation and community development fronts.
Our most current project is the creation of a small scale tree plantation to provide fuel and building material for the community. The Village of Ol Tukai is very sparsely wooded, and then predominantly with palms and sausage trees. That natural situation combined with large scale loss of trees due to flooding during the El Nino of the late 90’s and continued, in fact growing, use of this resource; makes this project urgent, we are very happy to be able to get this project underway at this point!
This project is being undertaken in partnership with Matembezi safaris in Tanzania (www.matembezi.co.tz)

Cheers and thanks!
Conservation in Tarangire-Manyara Ecosystem in Tanzania

Dear Friends of the Tarangire-Manyara Ecosystem, my name is Corbett Bishop, I created the Ol Tukai Conservancy in partnership with the village of Ol Tukai after many years of working in the Tarangire-Manyara ecosystem. The Ol Tukai Conservancy is a small, focused and effective conservation organization designed to protect and conserve a vital wildlife corridor in the Tarangire-Manyara Ecosystem of Northern Tanzania while simultaneously benefiting, empowering and educating the people of the Ol Tukai Community.
I worked in the adventure travel and conservation world for over 15 years. He began his career as a mountaineering guide and climbing instructor for Mountain Madness in Seattle, WA. Since then I’ve done lion research, been a Kilimanjaro mountain guide, and organized private safaris.
What I’m really committed to is conservation. I’ve been creating and directing a training program for Tanzania National Parks – a program designed to provide a select group of rangers with the skills, both technical and social, to successfully and safely guide guests on walking safaris into deep bush and amongst dangerous game.
I hope you’ll enjoy coming on safari with me through this blog into the spectacular Manyara-Tarangire ecosystem of Tanzania
